In July 2025, Comensura demonstrated its ongoing commitment to social impact and community engagement by partnering with Bristol City Council for an inspiring employability workshop at Oasis Academy Brightstowe.
The session, delivered to Year 10 students by Comensura colleagues Senior Business Partner Victoria Lander and Head of Service Andrew Banfield, exemplified the company’s belief that real change springs from investing in local communities and nurturing young talents.
The session was carefully designed to align with Comensura’s broader goal of generating meaningful social value through its contract with Bristol City Council. Recognising that employability is a keystone for personal aspiration and community resilience, the team’s objectives were to introduce students to the importance of CV writing, provide practical guidance on its key components, give hands-on drafting experience, and, perhaps most importantly, foster self-expression, confidence, and creativity.
Victoria and Andrew’s blended informative content with high-energy participation to create an atmosphere where learning felt relevant and students were participants rather than passive recipients.
The workshop included a guided discussion on what a CV is and its role in supporting future career goals. Students were encouraged to think deeply about how a well-crafted CV could open doors and serve as a reflection of their unique personalities and strengths.
The facilitators then broke down the structure of an effective CV—covering everything from writing a compelling personal profile to highlighting achievements and transferable skills.
Through relatable examples and open dialogue, students were able to demystify the process and gain a clear roadmap for their own CV development. Students were tasked with drafting fictional CVs for well-known figures: Cristiano Ronaldo was used to illustrate sports excellence and the universality of transferable skills; Gordon Ramsay’s CV showcased culinary ambition, drive, and entrepreneurship; and a famous fictional DJ from Bristol spotlighted local pride and the art of imaginative storytelling.
This workshop is just one facet of Comensura’s holistic approach to social impact in partnership with Bristol City Council. By enhancing career readiness, strengthening partnerships with schools, and inspiring creative thinking, we're demonstrating how businesses can be powerful agents of change.
The feedback from both facilitators and students was overwhelmingly positive.
“It was brilliant to see students so willing to engage with the activity — they were imaginative and articulate, and I think they’ll carry this learning into the real world when it matters.” Stated Victoria Lander.
Andrew Banfield added “it was a joy to work with such a switched-on group. They brought heart, humour, and creativity to a topic that’s crucial for their future”
The Oasis Academy Brightstowe employability session not only strengthened employability skills but also deepened social impact through meaningful community engagement.
